The 2018 vintage is noted for producing classic wines with intense fruit and ageing potential and is noted as a cracker year in the Hunter.
The vines on the Bainton Vineyard were planted in 1940 on a duplex soil overlying an old stream bed. Given that this was the second year in a strong drought the vines were still able to produce premium fruit be it at low yields. The style produced is in the mould of the classic Hunter Reds and the low pH gives it a mouthfeel that is perfect with food.
