The Hunter Ridge Vineyard is located on Hermitage Road at the base of the Brokenback Range. In Summer the prevailing onshore breeze arrive at the range at around 1pm each day and this sends a cooling layer of air over the vineyard keeping it cooler than most vineyards in the Valley. Semillon vines have a shallow root system which means that they produce extremely poor yields if grown on their own roots.
The old vines producing the grapes for this wine were grown on a duplex loam that seems to consistently produce the same yield from year to year. The Hunter Ridge Semillon has consistently been a wine of high flavour concentration and has been responsible for giving the Hunter Valley the recognition that it has attained.
Hunter Semillons produce a style being unusual for the fact that the wines have full flavour at low alcohol levels and this alone makes them excellent to drink in the Australian climate.
